Stainless Steel Crown

Refers to a pre-made metal crown that is shaped like a tooth. It is used as a temporary cover for a tooth that is badly decayed or worn down. The Stainless Steel Crown is most commonly used in orthodontic and pediatric cases because standard amalgam fillings are not recommended in younger patients. If a large filling were to fracture a "baby" tooth, there is a large possiblity that a pulpotomy or extraction will be needed, causing uneccessary pain for a child. Therefore, Stainless Steel Crowns are highly regarded as the best treatment for decaying primary teeth.
