Sealant

A plastic coating applied to the teeth to prevent decay—also known as a tooth sealant. Most often used in children, sealants play an important role in protecting young teeth from cavities. When applying sealants, dentists bond the plastic coating to the grooves and pits of the teeth where food and plaque can is more likely to be trapped and potentially cause problems.
