Periodontal

Refers to the tissues that support and surround the tooth. The periodontal region of the mouth is most commonly affected by Periodontal Disease. The mildest form of this disease is known as gingivitis which is caused by the bacteria found in plaque. Patients suffering from gingivitis might have red or swollen gums that bleed easily. If left untreated, the problem can advance to periodontitis and with time, the bacteria laden plaque can advance below the gumline and eventually cause tooth loss.
