Dental Implant

A dental device that is intended to be surgically attached to the maxillary bone as a means to provide tooth replacement. There are two portions of a dental implant which are meant to recreate the holding ability of a tooth's roots. The first part the implant itself which is imbedded directly into the jawbone. Te second portion is a post that portrudes just above the gumline which the tooth restoration (similar to a crown) is fixed on. The more teeth that are lost, the more posts a cosmetic dentist will need to insert. Dental implants are often used as alternatives to full and partial Dentures and a Crown and Bridge.
