Crown

Refers to a covering that replaces a major part or the whole of a tooth’s crown. A crown is different from a filling because it often comprises a large portion, if not the entire natural crown of a tooth. There are a variety of dental crowns used, including those that cover an entire tooth, or those placed on a tooth to act as a support for a dental prosthesis such as a fixed denture. Dental crowns can give support to a weakened tooth and also improve the cosmetic quality of a tooth that has been discolored or decayed with time. Crowns are often referred to as "caps."
